i-PUTRA at the “Way forward for Internationalisation Workshop”

Malaysia is fast becoming the choice destination for foreign students seeking higher education. There are currently more than 120,000 foreign students at institutions of higher learning here, and the number is expected to reach 200,000 by 2020. Among the reasons for this popularity are value for money, the wide range of courses available, and a safe environment.

To improve our services and prepare for issues/problems in the future, the Ministry of Education Malaysia organised the “Way forward for Internationalisation Workshop” on 13 September 2019. This workshop was organised to discuss and share ideas on six main topics, namely, students’ experience, policies, promotional & strategic strategies, facilities, support system and also internationalisation initiatives. The workshop was attended by both private and public universities in Malaysia, including the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM),  UCSI University, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and Taylor’s University, among others.

Throughout the workshop, participants highlighted major occurrences and problems they have had with international student affairs and also shared positive ideas and solutions.  It is hoped that findings from the workshop will help give input to the Ministry of Education and to the local universities on how to improve our services in order to make Malaysia the region's educational hub and destination of choice for higher education.
