Virtual Aims Forum of Students From Various Universities Discussing On How They Handle Open Distance Learning During The Pandemic Of Covid-19

 

Serdang – The Office of International Affairs (OIA) Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM) has held a program named “Virtual AIMS Forum (VAF2020): Covid-19 Students’ Experience – Let’s Connect”. Students in this program already participated at least four times in VAF2020 forum session in one month starting the 26th of June 2020 until 27th July 2020 to finish this program. This program was organized by UITM with the collaboration among the Ministry of Higher Education and 10 local universities which are Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang. Every university has sent about two to three students to be the representative of AIMS Ambassador for their own universities.

Students that have been chosen this program are among the students who already went for mobility program, the students who are preparing to go for mobility program, and students buddies to the international students who came to their universities. Universiti Putra Malaysia has sent two representatives which are Eng Kah Yang, a student from the Faculty of Environmental Studies, and Siti Maryam binti Shaharudin, from the Faculty of Agriculture. Both of these students have finished their mobility program in 2019, where Eng Kah Yang went to Japan and Siti Maryam went to Indonesia.

This program was held as a medium for students to interact with each other despites of different background studies to discuss more on the issue that needs to face during this pandemic and how they overcome the situation during the Movement Control Order (MCO) have been done. This forum has also given a positive input to students where they have discussed how they manage life as students well while at home and share ideas on the programs they want to run if this pandemic issue ends later.

On 24 September 2020, the Closing Ceremony of VAF 2020 was officiated by Dr. Hajah Zainab Hj. Mohd Noor, Director of the Office of External and International Relations, Universiti Teknologi Mara. According to her "In this current of modernization, it is no longer an obstacle for students to interact and share ideas."
