SERDANG, 9 September - On the second day of the New International Students Welcoming Program (NISWP) new international students are taken to visit our capital, Kuala Lumpur. The program was held to give students a fresh experience. The visit was conducted by i-PUTRA in collaboration with 22 local and international students of pre-graduate and postgraduate students from UPM's Buddies Association. Representatives from the association acted as assistants in coordinating the program as well as mediation between international students and UPM’s management.
The program started as early as 8 am headed to Pasar Seni. The location is chosen as it is close to the city's many tourist attractions. There, they are divided into small groups assisted by a UPM student, they are brought to visit various attractions around the Pasar Seni and were given descriptions of the history and background of these places.
Among the places visited includes Petaling Street, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Merdeka Square and Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Among the most eye-catching attractions are the KL City Gallery / Arch KL. The contemporary Urban Museum is not only equipped with various colourful exhibits but also the miniature of Kuala Lumpur which is also used as a medium of light show.
Before the program ends, students were brought around the entire UPM campus. Students were given guidance on faculty locations, lecture halls, related facilities and so on. This bus tour is intended to facilitate students on their first day. Students are also given guidance on how to read each class schedule.
