Earth Day

Our planet is an amazing place, but it requires our assistance to thrive! The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, when a Wisconsin senator organised a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Rallies were held across the country, and by the end of the year, the United States government established the Environmental Protection Agency. By 1990, Earth Day was observed in over 140 countries around the world.  That is why, on April 22, more than a billion people worldwide celebrate Earth Day to protect the planet from threats such as pollution and deforestation. We make our world a happier, healthier place to live by doing things like picking up litter and planting trees.

On 22 April 2022, iPutra with UPM officers from various entities celebrated Earth Day. Our theme for Earth Day is 5R Reuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recovery. The purpose of Earth Day was to express our support for environmental protection. We also interacted with the Vice-Chancellor via Zoom meeting about our 5R activities on Earth Day.  It is important to learn what the five Rs of waste management are in order to understand their importance. The five Rs refer to a process used by businesses to make the outcome of their recycling programmes better through reducing the amount of waste the company produces. It is important for any company that produces high amounts of waste to use proper waste management programme to keep the environment cleaner and to ensure that all hazardous wastes are safely disposed of.   A significant part of the process is implementing the steps known as the five Rs. Each of these steps must be followed to the very last detail in order for the plan to work to its full potential.
