In the spirit of Ramadan, a month dedicated to reflection and compassion, international mobility students at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) were given the opportunity to engage with the values and traditions of this sacred period through meaningful iftar gatherings.

On March 15, 2025, 44 mobility students convened at the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya for an enriching iftar experience. Prior to breaking their fast, the students were introduced to the history and architectural significance of the mosque, as well as its vital role in fostering community and spiritual connection. They also learned about the importance of fasting in Islam and the profound significance of Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar. Dressed respectfully in modest attire, including hijabs and robes, the students joined the local congregation for iftar, an act that promoted a sense of unity, respect, and shared cultural appreciation.

The experience continued on March 23, 2025, with another iftar held at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, commonly known as Masjid Besi. Here, 42 students participated in a similar programme that offered deeper insights into the essence of Ramadan, the foundational principles of Islam, and the spiritual significance of Laylatul Qadr. Sharing a meal with the mosque’s community provided the students not only with a glimpse into Islamic practices but also with the opportunity to establish meaningful connections with the local congregation.

These immersive experiences transcended mere cultural exposure; they embodied the true spirit of Ramadan: unity, gratitude, reflection, and the joy of sharing blessings. For the mobility students, these gatherings represented a memorable and enlightening opportunity to embrace the values that render Ramadan a time of profound personal and communal significance.
