6th October 2022, the New International Students Welcoming Programme (NISWP) was held at Putra Cocu Hall, Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre, UPM which is organised by i-PUTRA. The programme were participated by 104 international students (mobility and full-time students) from all over the globe such as China, France, Germany, Netherlands, Indonesia, Japan and many more. The 7-hour programmes give an insight into Malaysia and an important briefing by the relevant office on safety, visa and pass, health, and cultural exposure whilst studying at UPM.
The objective of welcoming new international students is to know more about Universiti Putra Malaysia and get a chance to interact with UPM staff, specifically i-PUTRA staff. It can be intimidating and challenging to adapt oneself at new place, but with NISWP, we wish the students to feel comfortable at the university and enjoy their moments while studying at UPM.
The programme was graced by our Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and Internationals Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail and joined by i-PUTRA’s Director Prof. Dr. Suhaimi Ab Rahman. Madam Noraihan Noordin as Head of i-PUTRA added “we do hope that our students will learn not only in the classroom but also adapt to the new place. We encourage them to interact more with the locals to get used to the environment, culture, and social aspects of Malaysia. They can come to us at any time if they need any help regarding visas, traveling, and accommodation inquiries. We will try our best to accommodate them”
The programme was a success, and we welcome all international students to our green campus to enjoy studying in sunny Malaysia.
As the Ministry of Higher Education blueprint 2021-2025 targets to increase the number of international students in Malaysia, we hope that we achieve the milestone this year and be the top destination for education in Asia if not in the world.
