SERDANG, 14 March - Georgia Institute of Technology, United States, led by Professor Dr. Michael Best, Executive Director, Institute for People and Technology (IPaT), paid a courtesy visit to i-PUTRA this morning held at the Meeting Room, i-PUTRA. Accompanying him was Mr. Shelton Chan, Managing Director of Asian Development for Georgia Tech.
The delegation was welcomed by Professor Dr. Suhaimi Ab Rahman, Director of i-PUTRA; Associate Professor Dr. Syazwani Idrus, Deputy Director of i-PUTRA; Associate Professor Dr. Fazirulhisyam Hashim, Deputy Dean (Research & Innovation and Industry & Community Relations), Faculty of Engineering; Associate Professor Dr. Hazura Zulzalil, Deputy Dean (Academic), Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology; Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Abdullah Muhammed, Deputy Dean (Graduate Studies), Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology; Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Iskandar Ishak, Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation), Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology; Dr. Amir Affan Abdul Azim, Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs & Alumni), Faculty of Forestry and Environment; Associate Professor Dr. Fairuz Izzuddin Romli, Head of the Aerospace Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, and Dr Anusuiya A/P Subramaniam, Assistant Dean (Internationalisation), School of Business and Economics.
The visit provided the opportunity to discuss the possibility of academic and research collaborations between UPM and Georgia Tech, particularly in innovation, sustainability, supply chains, aero, and community development. Professor Best also provided an overview of the External Faculty Fellows Program to assist in promoting and coordinating CIC in Malaysia. CIC, or Convergence Innovation Competition, is a competition recognising student innovation and entrepreneurship where global teams respond to today’s global challenges and opportunities. CIC entries can be based on class projects, student research projects, as well as personal hobbies and interests. CIC is organised by the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) of the Georgia Institute of Technology and supported this year by the Shenzhen Georgia Tech Education Foundation, an independent organisation supporting Georgia Tech.
The visit concluded with a fruitful discussion. Most of the attendees showed interest in joining the CIC. This engaging and courteous visit promises a productive partnership between the two institutions
