Building Bridges: UPM and Al-Ayen University Foster Academic Partnership with Iraqi Embassy's Support

SERDANG, August 15, 2023 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Al-Ayen University have embarked on a collaborative journey, facilitated by the Embassy of Iraq in Malaysia. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahlam Neamah Lafta, Cultural Counselor, and Dr. Salah Mahdi Khaleel, Academic Advisor, orchestrated the connection between the two institutions, paving the way for meaningful academic discussions. Prof. Dr. Shafik S. Shafik, Chancellor of Al-Ayen University, contributed his insights to the dialogue, reflecting the mutual interest in creating educational opportunities that transcend borders.

Welcoming the delegated for the courtesy visit were the PUTRA International Centre (i-PUTRA) Director, Prof Dr Suhaimi AB Rahman, Head of i-PUTRA, Madam Noraihan Noordin, section head from the Global Engagement section, Madam Ida Suhaila, the Section head from the Mobility Section, Ms Nadia Zawani and faculty representatives.

Discussions revolved around the potential for a joint degree program, set to enhance the academic experiences of students. To add to the spirit of collaboration between the two institutions, Al-Ayen University also discussed the possibility of offering some scholarships for UPM students to pursue their mobility program at their university.

As part of the discussion, both parties also discussed the possibility of signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) as a step towards formalizing their partnership and fostering future collaborations. The courtesy visit concluded with a short photography session and the exchange of tokens of appreciation between the two institutions, signifying the goodwill and enthusiasm that underpinned the dialogue.

With the support from the Embassy of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur, UPM and Al-Ayen University are shaping a pathway for cross-cultural academic growth. This partnership echoes the rising importance of global collaborations in higher education, setting the stage for an interconnected future of enriched learning experiences.
