FINAL INSTALLATION OF VMLCP III

 

Held on Saturday 20th November 2021 is the Virtual Malay Language and Cultural Programme III organised by PUTRA International Centre (i-PUTRA) with the collaboration of Faculty of Modern Language and Communication, UPM. This program is the final series installation for 2021.

The final virtual programme was re-designed according to faculty niche and inviting professors with expertise in language and performance such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rohaidah Kamaruddin, a senior lecturer at the Department of Malay language who has written multiple research articles and she has also written several books around the old Malay Epic that are currently being distributed internationally.   Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abd Rauf Hassan is an Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign language who specializes in Arabic lexicography, calligraphy, and the study of Tajwid Al-Quran. He also studied various Islamic calligraphy styles, also known as Khatt Arabi such as nasakh, riqaah, thulus, Diwani, and nasta'liq. He also was awarded various awards by the National Book Awards Ceremony for his publication from the year 2016 to 2018. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Mohammad who specializes in Malay Contemporary Dance and Art Management and Dr. Fadzilah specialize in Malay literature and performance art which includes drama and theatre. The programme is not completed by featuring our UPM Buddies Association who is made up of local and international UPM students. The members are called ‘Buddies’ and their main role is to assist new international students to assimilate and acclimatize to their new life in UPM, wherein during the session, they partake in the introduction to Malaysian culture.

The 8 hours programme manage to receive 121 participants from China, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan. Philippines, Yemen, and Vietnam to take part in our interesting, unique, and fun activities which consist of the basic introduction to Malaysia’s National Language, the Malay Language with Assoc. Dr. Rohaidah Kamaruddin, Arabi Khatt demonstration by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abd Rauf Hassan and contemporary dance inspired by Malay Martial Art performed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Mohamed, Joget and Zapin traditional dance lead by Adimastuli cultural dancer together with UPM Buddies, and games.

With this in mind, we would like to extend our thank you to Dr. Halis Azhan Mohd Hanafiah and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adi Yasran Abdul Aziz from the faculty in working in had to co-organize the programme with i-PUTRA first hand.

The pandemic has also enabled us to explore a different approach and redefine mobility programs. In the spirit of keeping the spirit of internationalization alive, i-PUTRA in collaboration with multiple UPM entities had come up with its Virtual Malay Language and Cultural Programme (VMLCP) Online mobility Series of I, II & III with overall participations of 280 and contributed to the university’s KPI in Mobility.
