UPM as Co-Organiser of the 27th SEAMEO RIHED Governing Board Meeting

In August, 2019, UPM was nominated by the Education Division Malaysia under the Ministry of Education Malaysia to co-organise the 27th SEAMEO RIHED Governing Board Meeting (GBM) & the 13th Southeast Asian Higher Education Senior Officials Meeting (SEA-HiEd SOM) from 5th  to 7th September 2019 at the Everly Hotel, Putrajaya. The UPM offices that worked together in making the programme a success were i-PUTRA, CosComm and Putra Science Park.

The programme began with an opening ceremony by YBhg Datuk Paduka Ir Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir, Director General, Department of Higher Education Malaysia and continued with sessions on Adoption of Agenda, Business Arrangement and Election of Rapporteur. On the programme’s first night, a welcoming dinner was scheduled with the opening act by UPM’s very own talents, including a traditional dance and a Caklempong performance. Vice Chancellor YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris was also given the opportunity to present an insight about Universiti Putra Malaysia to the distinguished guests.

The SEAMEO RIHED Governing Board is the main policy making body of the Centre. The Governing Board comprises one representative from each SEAMEO Member Country, with the exception of Timor Leste. The Board is responsible for operational policies, strategic planning, annual evaluation and review of the Centre’s programmes and budget within the framework of its approved five-year development plan. The SEAMEO Secretariat Director and the SEAMEO RIHED Director serve as ex-officio members of the Board.

On the last day of the programme, delegates took the opportunity to visit the UPM campus in a short campus tour. The delegates’ first check point was the iconic ‘We Love UPM’ landmark.  The delegates were also greeted by the YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, Chairman of Universiti Putra Malaysia’s board of directors and the Vice Chancellor YBhg. Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris. The visitors also visited the Malay Heritage Museum, another UPM landmark, and enjoyed a Malay martial arts performance while enjoying local fruits.
