SERDANG, 11th May 2023 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently welcomed a delegation from Soka University's Faculty of International Liberal Arts (FILA) as part of their benchmarking visit to Malaysia. The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration opportunities and expand the semester exchange options for Soka University's FILA Program.

The FILA Program, an English-based curriculum offered at Soka University, mandates that students complete a minimum of one semester abroad to fulfill their graduation requirements. Traditionally, students have been sent to countries such as the United States, Canada, and the Philippines. However, Soka University is now seeking to broaden its horizons by expanding the list of countries to include Malaysia. As part of their benchmarking trip, representatives from FILA, led by Vice-dean Prof. Sugimoto Ichiro and Manager Mr. Koji Oda, visited several institutions, including UPM, UM, UKM, and USM.

The courtesy visit commenced with a productive meeting attended by representatives from UPM's Faculty of Human Ecology and the School of Business and Economics. The delegates engaged in fruitful discussions, exchanging ideas, and exploring potential areas of collaboration. Both parties expressed their enthusiasm for deepening the partnership and seizing new opportunities for mutual growth.

Following the courtesy meeting, the FILA delegates were given an extensive campus tour, providing them with a firsthand experience of UPM's state-of-the-art facilities and captivating surroundings. The delegation also had the privilege of visiting the impressive KMR OnePUTRA accommodation, which showcased modern amenities and a commitment to providing a comfortable living environment for students.

To conclude the program, the FILA delegates were invited to observe a class at the Faculty of Human Ecology, gaining valuable insights into UPM's teaching methodologies and academic environment. The delegates were highly impressed by the exceptional quality of education and expressed their admiration for the warm hospitality extended to them throughout their visit.

The FILA delegates conveyed their amazement at UPM's world-class facilities and expressed their eagerness to expand cooperation further in the future. Both institutions recognize the tremendous potential for academic and cultural exchange between their student bodies and are keen on exploring collaborative research projects, joint conferences, and student exchange programs.

The visit by the FILA delegation from Soka University serves as a powerful testament to the enduring partnership between the two institutions. It reinforces UPM's unwavering commitment to nurturing global collaborations and offering exceptional educational opportunities to students worldwide. Having established their partnership in 2000, UPM and Soka University have consistently fostered engagement through diverse initiatives, including short-term mobility programs and semester exchanges. The FILA delegates' expressed interest in expanding the semester exchange option to include Malaysian universities, with UPM being a strong candidate, further signifies the potential for future growth and cooperation. Together, UPM and Soka University are poised to pave the way for expanded educational horizons and a truly interconnected global learning community.
