HUMANITY KNOWS NO BORDERS: UPM x UB CSR PROGRAMME

i-PUTRA through its main thrust, i-PUTRA with Community once again commemorate the spirit of togetherness and sharing. On 14th November 2023, i-PUTRA in collaboration with Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia has made a success of a CSR programme. The Universitas Brawijaya delegation was led by Dr. Panji Doeranto, senior lecturer of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. This delegation was joined by 11 others academician and staff of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya. On the other hand, Associate Prof. Dr. Syazwani Idrus was led the i-PUTRA representatives.

Through their initiative of Dosen Berkarya (DOKAR),Universitas Brawijaya has chose Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) in Kampung Lembah Paya and Taman Perumahan PKNS Salak, Sepang to do a knowledge transfersession. In this session the participants were taught on making snacks (kerepek) out of fruits. This session was conducted by Dr. Arif Hidayat, senior lecturer of Faculty of Agriculture. Kerepek can be easily found in Malaysia, but the differentiation was the process of making it. Dr. Arif Hidayat has showed the cooking process of the kerepek through the drying process.

Then, the delegation was brought to the Biorefinery Complex in UPM. Biorefinery Complex owned by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences. The delegation was welcomed and briefed by Dr. Ahmad Muhaimin Roslan, researcher in the Biorefinery Complex. The pilot plants consist of biocompost machinery including biocompostreactor, mechanical compost turner, grinder, wood chipper as well as other machines such as steam blasting and biodiesel reactor. Also, it is the first pilot processing in UPM that incorporate a holistic approach in exploiting solid biomass into value added products through green technology.

The knowledge transfer session and visit concluded at 4:00 p.m. Though it was short, it has strengthened bond between the two institutions. To more CSR collaborations in the future.
