i-PUTRA Hosts UAiTED Member Universities' Visit

Serdang, Malaysia – On the 5th of December 2023, UPM welcomed a delegation from the University Alliance in Talent Education Development (UAiTED). The delegation was led by Mr. Jeter Her, Executive Director of Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation. The visit aimed to explore different ventures of cooperation and exchange ideas in the advancement of knowledge and global sustainability.

UPM’s delegation was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, the UAiTED Board of Governance in UPM. UPM as a member of UAiTED also serves in the leading independent membership organization across Asia that seeks to provide a platform for international collaboration in practice, research, education, and innovation together with Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. 

The programme commenced at 10:00 a.m. with warm welcoming remarks by the Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Dato’ Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of the bond between academia and industry as it would not only benefits students, but also the community as well. The programme then continued with a presentation on Academia-Industry Linkages at UPM by the UAiTED Board of Governance, Prof. Ir. Dr. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin. The presentation was followed by a discussion on future collaboration interests between UPM and UAiTED. 

The delegation then was brought to visit high-impact projects happening at the Faculty of Engineering, UPM. One of the high-impact projects is the cooperation between UPM and GSPARX Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd. Through this cooperation, it is expected that the solar panel installation across 12 sites in UPM would generate approximately 16.18 MWP and is expected to save around RM114 Million in electricity bills over 25 25-year period. Other than that, the delegation also been brought to the Thinker Space 2.0 (Smart classroom); a collaboration between UPM and Steelcase Office Solutions (M) Sdn Bhd. UPM, Embedded Systems Laboratory; UPM-NI (National Instruments); a collaboration between UPM and National Instrument Malaysia; and UPM – Bentley BIM Advancement Lab, a collaboration between UPM and Bentley Institute.

The programme concluded around 1:30 p.m. It is hoped that through this cooperation, it will allow more exploration of different areas and field to the UPM and members of the alliance to support this cause.
