SERDANG, 21 August 2024– In conjunction with the Independence Day celebrations, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS), UPM organised the Semarak Merdeka 2024 Programme throughout August. To ignite the spirit of patriotism among the UPM staff in this historic and glorious month, the PUTRA International Centre (i-PUTRA) seized the opportunity to participate in several competitions organised.

Prof. Dr. Alyani Ismail, Director of i-PUTRA, Associate Prof. Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah, Deputy Director of i-PUTRA, and Ms. Juliesafarina Mohd Janjang, Secretary, took part in a poetry competition themed “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka”.  The three of them recited poems co-authoured by Prof. Dr. Alyani Ismail and Ms. Juliesafarina Mohd Janjang, titled…. In this competition, 48 participants competed to secure a place among the top 10 from the UPM staff. The champion was Muhammad Azim Khairul Amir from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

On 22 August 2024, the Inter-PTJ Choir Competition took place. A total of 21 choir teams from the Responsibility Centres (PTJ) in UPM participated in this competition. i-PUTRA performing a song titled “Kitalah Seri Warnakan Malaysia”, composed by Muhammad Syafiq Farhan Boo Omar Boo, Head of Mobility Section, i-PUTRA. The Inter-PTJ Choir Competition was won by The Ritma, from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital (HSAAS), who performed “Sejahtera Malaysia”. They not only showcased their harmonious and energetic vocal performance, but the group also wore beautiful Iban traditional attire, uplifting the entire hall's ambience.

Although i-PUTRA did not secure any awards, this program fostered a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie and instilled a sense of patriotism in every individual at i-PUTRA. It also united officers from various levels of positions, not only within i-PUTRA but across all PTJ in UPM.
