‘Bunga telur’ (Egg flower) are an important element in a Malay wedding. In Malay custom, the eggs found on the ‘Bunga telur’ represent fertility. Therefore, it is considered as a wish for the couple to be fertile and to get baby in the near future.

Generally, ‘Bunga telur’ refer to an artificial flower buds tied with eggs and are stick into yellow glutinous rice that is put on each side of the wedding dais; on the left and right of the bride and bridegroom. There is also a distinction that calls upon the interpretation of the ‘Bunga telur’ as the following: ‘Bunga pahar’ (Bunga telur placed on a traditional pedestal) are flower buds tied with eggs and are stick into yellow glutinous rice that is put on each side of the wedding dais; on the left and right of the bride and bridegroom., while the ‘Bunga telur’ as a souvenirs is given to guess.

‘Bunga telur/ pahar’ are usually given only to the nearest relatives, who are invited to sprinkle the rose water and flower potpourri on both groom and bridegroom.

Nowadays, due to the difficulty of preparing eggs, there are couples who replace eggs with candy. This is because without proper preparation, many eggs cracked when boiled, and boiled egg easily spoiled, leaving the preparation process to be done at the last hours.
