i-PUTRA Welcomes Ningxia Normal University

SERDANG, 7 July 2026 – PUTRA International Centre (i-PUTRA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently hosted a high-level bilateral meeting with a prominent delegation from Ningxia Normal University, China. Held at the Morocco Room in i-PUTRA, the meeting served as a dynamic platform to explore transformative academic avenues, culminating in the official signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) and a symbolic gift exchange ceremony.

The UPM delegation was led by PLC Gs. Ts. Dr. Mohammad Mujaheed Hassan, Deputy Director of International Relations at i-PUTRA, alongside respected dean and department heads from various faculties. The visiting delegation from Ningxia Normal University was led by its President,Prof. Dr. Liu Shiwei, accompanied by senior academic officials.

During the opening remarks, both universities shared introductory information to celebrate their respective institutional milestones. Prof. Dr. Liu Shiwei highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the two institutions, noting that 14 Ningxia students are currently doing their mobility programs as research assistants at UPM.

Building on this solid foundation, the discussion centered on establishing formal structures for future collaboration, targeting key areas for expansion across academic disciplines such as Humanities, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Data Science. Core initiatives will focus on enhancing student mobility, implementing a systematic credit transfer framework, and executing teaching exchange programs. Furthermore, both institutions aim to optimize research and resources through the co-publication of joint research by forming dedicated research teams, and sharing high-quality educational materials and expertise.

To transition these aspirations into concrete realities, both universities officially executed a Letter of Intent (LoI) during the session, marking the dawn of a structured and mutually beneficial alliance. Following the signing, both leaders participated in a traditional gift exchange ceremony, symbolizing goodwill, mutual respect, and a shared vision for global educational excellence.

To ensure the smooth execution of the upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Faculty of Engineering has been officially selected as the anchor faculty to spearhead and manage future initiatives between UPM and Ningxia Normal University.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in UPM's continuous internationalization efforts, bridging cultures and co-creating robust academic ecosystems that transcend borders.
